Meet Mpho "Frog" Johane Founder & Director | Professional Guide | Okavango Delta Native
Born and raised deep in the heart of the Okavango Delta, in the remote village of Xaxaba, Mpho Johane affectionately known as “Frog” carries the Delta in his blood. With over 27 years of experience, Frog has grown through every role the wilderness could offer: mokoro guide (poler), bush chef, professional safari guide, camp manager, and now founder of Reed Frog Safaris.Read More
Frog’s journey began in 1999 when he completed his Mokoro Guide Level 1, marking the start of a lifelong career in the bush. Since then, he has continuously refined his skills, earning certifications and experience across various safari disciplines while guiding guests through Botswana’s most pristine wilderness areas.
The nickname “Frog” was given to him in childhood by his age mates, inspired by his unusual affection for frogs and the natural world from a very young age. That early bond with nature shaped the guide he is today.
For Frog, guiding is more than a profession, it is a way of reconnecting with his heritage and sharing the ancient rhythms of Delta life with guests. He brings a unique blend of knowledge, storytelling, cultural insight, and deep bushcraft, offering guests an authentic and immersive experience.
Known for his warm personality, attentiveness, and sense of humor, Frog ensures every safari is filled with personal connection, comfort, and unforgettable moments. His guiding style is rooted in respect for nature, genuine hospitality, and an infectious enthusiasm that leaves guests with memories and friendships that last long after the safari ends.
Whether navigating silent channels by mokoro or tracking wildlife across the floodplains, spending time with Frog is an experience in itself a journey into the true soul of the Okavango Delta.
